This award recognizes a significant contribution by a person or institution towards promoting good health and improving people’s quality of life.

Prize: 30,000 euros

This award is open to any individual or institution, whether public or private, that has undertaken a project or action whose results have helped to significantly reduce morbidity rates.

Candidates should submit a detailed report of the most significant and relevant aspects of their project and its results.

The following selection criteria will apply:

  • Actual progress in reducing morbidity or health damage.
  • The level of innovation and originality of the initiative.
  • Its multiplier effect.

The Fundación MAPFRE Social Awards –international in scope, held annually and worth
120,000 euros (including the Award for the Best Initiative in the Agricultural Sector*) –
recognize people, institutions and projects that share a commitment to improving society
through outstanding actions addressing issues that we have been interested in for over
forty years.
Fundación MAPFRE is a non-profit institution created by MAPFRE that contributes
to improving the quality of people’s lives and encouraging social progress through
multinational programs and activities.
• It cares particularly for disadvantaged social groups.
• It fosters public access to Culture, the Arts and Literature
• It works to encourage reducing traffic accidents as well as domestic, sports and
leisure-related ones.
• It promotes health through healthy habits and lifestyles.
• It spreads awareness about insurance and social protection.
(*) At the same prize-giving ceremony as the Social Awards, the Award for the Best Initiative in the Agricultural Sector
is also presented, for which there is a two-yearly call open until 1 March 2019 with an endowment of €30,000.

MOST RECENT
AWARDS
Her Majesty Queen Sofía presided over the prize-giving ceremony of the Fundación
MAPFRE Awards that took place on 14 June 2018 at the Casino of Madrid. The event was
attended by leading figures from the worlds of art, science, culture and business.
These were the prize-winners:
• Professional Lifetime Achievement Award to Vicente del Bosque for his extensive
charitable work in providing support and visibility to social groups in need of more
care.
• Award for the best Social Action Initiative to Turma do Bem for the project “O dentista
do Bem” (The Good Dentist) which provides dental treatment to underprivileged
children up until they reach the age of eighteen.
• Award for the Best Health Promotion Initiative to Fundación EHAS for their program
“Embarazo Saludable” (Healthy Pregnancy), in Guatemala.
• Award for the Best Accident Prevention Initiative to the Organization of American
Firefighters (OBA) for its programs aimed at contributing to reducing risk.
The previous call also incluofd the Julio Castelo Matrán International Insurance Award
(two-yearly) to the Policy Incubator Project of Wharton Risk Management and the Decision
Processes Center of the University de Pennsylvania (USA).

Recognition of a person for their professional career in the service of society, also
dedicating their time and effort to supporting social causes.

Those entering for this award must submit:
• Their curriculum vitae.
• A detailed resume of the candidate’s work in their own professional field.
• The selection panel will give priority to the candidates’ selfless contribution to their
personal and professional activities and how society has benefited from them.
• Their support for social causes will also be assessed.

TRACK RECORD IN SOCIAL CAUSES
It recognizes the merits of an entity or organization that carries out outstanding
work that has a great social impact in some of the activities through which Fundación
MAPFRE fulfills its commitment to society.
SPECIFIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Those entering for this award should be institutions or organizations that have, during
the course of their existence, undertaken relevant and effective actions in terms of
social, cultural, safety or accident prevention issues or those that involve health and the
promotion of healthy habits.
Candidates should submit a detailed report on the work carried out, the special
characteristics of the measures adopted and the results achieved.
The following criteria will apply in order to select the winning institution:
• Effective results achieved.
• Relevance of the work or projects carried out.
• Synergies with other people or institutions.
• Level of innovation of the idea or initiative submitted.
• Ease of extending the action or project to other similar situations.
• Detailed report about the work undertaken over recent years.

Those entering for this award should be an institution or organization that has carried out
a relevant project that has had a great impact on society, in terms of social, cultural, safety
or accident prevention issues or those that involve health and the promotion of healthy
habits.
Candidates should submit a detailed report of the most significant and relevant aspects of
their project and the results achieved.
The following selection criteria will apply:
• Effective results achieved.
• Relevance of the project carried out.
• Synergies with other people or institutions.
• Level of innovation of the idea or initiative submitted.
• Ease of extending the action or project to other similar situations.
• The level of innovation and originality of the initiative.
• Its multiplier effect.

GENERAL TERMS
AND CONDITIONS OF THE CALL
This is a worldwide initiative. Candidacies must be submitted via the web in Spanish,
English or Portuguese either by the candidates themselves or by other people or
institutions:
• It is possible to submit candidacies from 1 December 2018 until 00:00 (UTC/GMT+1) of 1
March 2019 by completing the form provided at www.fundacionmapfre.org.
• Once the completed submissions are analyzed, a mail might be sent requesting any
supplementary documentation that needs providing.
The final deadline for submitting this documentation is 10 March 2019.
DOCUMENTATION YOU MUST PROVIDE:
• Information about the institution or, in the case of individuals, the curriculum vitae of
the candidate, which can be as long as you like, providing relevant and complementary
information to the data on which the proposal is based.
• Explanatory report of the project or initiative undertaken and the professional biography
of the person entering for the award in cases where the specific terms and conditions of
an award require it. The recommended length for this biography is between five and ten
pages.
• If considered appropriate, accreditations that provide relevant information: annual
report, reports on activities, publications, other prizes received.
• Photocopy of the national identity document, passport or official identity card of the
candidate or their tax identification code (CIF) of the entity applying.
• Any further information or clarification required by Fundación MAPFRE

Other requirements to bear in mind
The presentation of the prize is subject to the current taxation laws in Spain.
Assessing submissions and deciding on the finalists for the award will be carried out by a
jury panel appointed by Fundación MAPFRE. The jury panel will be able to:
• Adopt as many initiatives as deemed necessary to check information on the candidacies
submitted.
• Withdraw the status of finalist and confer it to other substitute candidacies in the event
that the first finalist does not attend the award ceremony.
• In exceptional circumstances, the jury panel is able to extend the period for submitting
candidacies so long as this decision is made prior to choosing a winner. Any such
extension would be communicated via the Fundación MAPFRE website and through its
social media profiles.
• Declare the granting of any of the awards null and void should the candidacies
submitted lack the minimum requisites established by the call.
The decisions of the jury panel members are final. The announcement of each of the
awards will make public the names of the finalists, which will be communicated to every
participant and distributed through the media and Fundación MAPFRE’s website. However,
no information will be provided about either the selection process or any of the other
candidacies received.
The awards will be presented at a public event that will be announced in due course.
The winning people or entities must attend the award presentation ceremony in person
and also:
• Provide graphic material (along with rights of reproduction) to communicate the decision
and plan the design of the event.
• Give interviews insofar as the schedule permits on the day of the event.

Failure to comply with these requirements may provide grounds to withdraw the status
of finalist at the discretion of Fundación MAPFRE. The award will go to the following
candidate selected.
To meet the requirements laid down by the Spanish Law on the Prevention of Money
Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Art. 2 of Law 10/2010 of 18 April 2010 and its
Regulation -RD 304/2014), it will be necessary for winners to provide Fundación MAPFRE
with documentation that enables the formal identification of the beneficiary entity and its
representative:
• National Identity Document /Passport of the signatory of the donation certificate.
• Copy of the Notarial Certificate of Declarations that identifies the owner of the legal
body and its current statutes.
• In the absence of the foregoing, (only valid for foreign countries) a copy of the
Certificate of Incorporation and affidavit of the real owner (the owners of the entity or,
failing that, the members of its governing body).
• A copy of the Power of Attorney of the representative of the winning entity who signs
the donation certificate.
• A bank certificate confirming that the account the endowment money is paid into
belongs to the winner.
By responding to this call, it is considered that all entrants accept the common rules
established in these terms and conditions as well as the specific ones for each individual
award.
Fundación MAPFRE guarantees the confidentiality of the candidacies and the work
submitted for the award, and will fully comply with the current legislation on the
protection of personal data.
Any applications and documentation submitted for this call that are not declares winners
will be destroyed within three months of the results being made public.
